HOPE
Rye is out of my first Sage x Deckster litter and truly exemplifies my breeding goal of producing talented natural field dogs with outstanding temperaments.  Rye, in fact has such an outstanding temperament that my biggest concern about her is that she’ll get hurt in one of constant treks to go and greet every neighbor that is outside.  She likes everyone and if whomever she is visiting happens to throw a ball for her, then she has a friend for life.  Rye is very happy go lucky and takes life as it comes.  Unless of course there is something that needs retrieved, in which case, GET OUT OF THE WAY!  She is very willing to try anything asked of her and is by far the easiest dog that I’ve ever trained.  She inherited her mother’s innate hunting ability and strong desire to please and her father’s drive and athletic ability.

She breezed right through to her Junior Hunter title and is now running in senior level tests, and would have without a doubt achieved more if she had been blessed with a better trainer.  Rye’s best days though, will not be in front of any audiences, nor will they result in any titles, or ribbons.  Her best days will no doubt be on the river.  She has everything she needs to be a river dog, and a good one at that.  Her strength, and speed will suit her well to the physical challenge of retrieving in fast water, but ultimately Rye’s innate understanding of her role and her willingness to think and act on her own will be what determines her success.  I have never been more confident sending a dog on a difficult retrieve than I am when I send Rye.  She is truly a talented hunting dog, but more importantly, she is just a nice dog to have around.

Deckster is out of Wendy Shepard Chisholm's line of Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and his pedigree speaks for itself.  Deckster's sire, maternal grand-sire and half-brother are all dual champions.  There are 15 field champions and 12 bench champions in the last four generations.

Deckster is extremely powerful and exceedingly good-natured with both people and other dogs.  Deckster lives his life guided by two basic beliefs: The first being that everyone is his friend and the second being that the best path between two points is a straight line.  Slowing down to go around an object is not an option he readily considers.  He easily negotiates the Gunnison River and retrieves geese effortlessly.  He has a good memory and can retrieve multiple falls without direction.

Sage is out of Butch Goodwin’s Northern Flight Kennels and was selectively bred for outstanding natural inherited hunting ability.  She is retired from breeding now, but continues to be a very able and willing hunting partner.  She understands her role so well that commands of any kind are rarely required when she is doing the retrieving.  She is an ideal duck blind companion; quiet, calm, and proficient.

When Sage is not hunting she is the calm, gentle companion to my daughter, and patiently tolerates being covered with gravel, having her ears pulled, and chew toys taken from her mouth.  As good of a hunting dog as she is, she is even a better family pet.
She is playful, yet gentle, and protective, yet sensible.

Sage is light brown in color, weighs 75 lbs. and is OFA and CERF certified.

Hope is our new addition and is out of a breeding between Deckster and Butch Goodwin’s Northern Flights Double Dip.  We are just getting to know her, but we are already impressed by her inherent retrieving ability, good temperament, and love of water.  She loves to swim.  In fact Hope is the fastest swimmer of the pack.  She is maturing into a good dog who takes her responsibilities very seriously, both in the field and at home.  She has a very strong desire to please and to stay close to whichever family member is outside.  She is never far away and in fact is usually, literally right in the middle of whatever is going on.  She has already assumed responsibility for bringing in the newspaper each morning and based on her attentiveness to all the chores that are completed under watchful eye, I won’t be surprised if she tries to take on a few more domestic chores.  She is just beginning her hunting career, but it is already very apparent that she possesses the innate ability to compliment her training to ultimately become a very talented gundog.
